About
the
company:
The
company name was created by my fascination with the motorcycle board
track
racers from the early 1900’s. Various motorcycle companies
pioneered eight valve motors during that time and they were
used
by some of the racers. These racers competed against each other
at up to, and sometimes over, 100 mph on wood oval
banked tracks
made entirely from wood two-by-fours laid on edge.
The motorcycles had no brakes,
clutch, or throttles, so the racers would race with the motors running
wide open. Many would alter their speed solely by using a kill
switch, intermittently
shutting down the engine and restarting it, to scrub off a little
speed. When a
racer would crash, not only would he pick up numerous splinters
(sometimes deadly themselves), but
many were killed. Dozens of spectators at a time were also sometimes
killed when the motorcycles
crashed and were accidently hurled into the onlookers in the stands.
The 8 Valve
Publishing website was originally established as a marketplace to sell
my book,
“How
to Sell Your Motorcycle (and Put More $$$ In
Your Pocket)”.
During
the writing of the book, I decided I should offer my readers some of
the
products or links to sources I recommended in the book, thus saving
them time by not having
to
search all over the internet for those products.
About the
owner:
I have
owned, ridden, raced, refurbished, and restored all types of
motorcycles for
many years. From my first Mini-Trail 50, through my 305 Dream, to my
Montesa®
4RT, I have ridden in many parts of the United States, both for
enjoyment and
in competition. The majority of my current riding is throughout Texas
in
observed trials competition and local cruising in the piney woods of
East
Texas.
